Are Democrats Giving Up on Hawaii Special Election?

From Politico:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is re-evaluating whether to continue to spend money in this month’s Hawaii special election, Chairman Chris Van Hollen told POLITICO Thursday.

With former Democratic Rep. Ed Case and Democratic state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa splitting the Democratic vote against Republican Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou, Van Hollen said the committee recognized challenges to winning the race.

Asked if the committee would continue to spend money in the 1st District special election, Van Hollen responded: “We’ll have to re-evaluate based on the situation…”

And the situation is…

…that they’ve spent nearly a quarter of a million dollars slandering Charles Djou and it hasn’t made a dent.  It is showing that the usual Democrat tactics are simply not working in this revolutionary year of 2010.

Djou, meanwhile, has run a great campaign – he’s hitting the very correct theme that government is out of control and that we need people like Djou in there just to step on the brakes.  If Republicans can win here – in a Democrat district in a Democrat State – then the stage is set for major Republican victories in the Fall – provided we keep campaigning on the theme of putting the people back in charge.
